Wass Stevens. He’s a talented actor starring on Public Morals every Tuesday night on TNT. He’s been on your screen in movies and film including World Trade Center and House of Cards, but in the city, he’s known as something much more important than an actor. Wass is New York City’s most famous doorman. He rose to fame as the best-dressed doorman in Manhattan in the early 2000’s, and has maintained that title for more than ten years.
I am lucky to call this great guy, a friend. We met one night at Marquee. I was a baby, 24 years old, and in the city just over a year. He let me in. I introduced myself and we started talking each night. During the summer, we met up a couple days a week at the Gansevoort Hotel. We would sit by the pool and fill each other in on life as an actor/doorman and a writer/celeb gossip columnist. We laughed a lot, as you can imagine. And then we’d part ways and meet up later at the club.
I was super excited to return to the city this fall, just in time for Wass’ birthday. The party was at Avenue, where he can still be found occasionally running the sexiest club scene in Manhattan.
The party was outstanding. It did involve me dancing on the banquette as if 2004 never left. It was SO MUCH FUN!!!
