Well hello, Utah!!! Today, I successfully drove into my 48th state. All I can say is…WOW. I am bubbling over with excitement and a sense of accomplishment. With only two states to go, I am in love with this journey and it’s lessons across my life, my community, my sense of self and my love for all people.
Today is a photo odyssey. I think this chain of images salutes the morning with Donner and Mary at the cabin, the 11 hour drive through South Dakota, most of Wyoming (beautiful, even in the snow with one 5 minute white-out) and my arrival in Utah. My day begins with my new furry friend Donner and ends with two more furry friends, Gus and Mia.
I take four pitstops along the way, but push on fast, so excited to cross into Utah. The beauty in Utah is hard to beat, even amid all the glorious mountains across the West. I spot Deer Creek, not a creek at all, but a stunning reservoir amid the mountains and I yank the wheel into the gravel parking area. I meet Larry and Tyler, father and son, out for an evening fish or two, and with breathless awe I ask them to take a pic of me standing in State 48!! I fill them in on the adventure – I can’t help it. We sit and talk about their home state for 20 minutes, before I slide back behind the wheel of the Honda.
I am just 30 minutes away from my hosts, Robb and Jerry in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Robb and I are old friends from NYC that have not seen each other in nearly ten years. I arrive to happy puppies and a welcome bag on the guest room bed that is full of love and well…a tad more than one bag!
