Today is a special day with Kate. Nate and Wren stay home and play outside and take a long afternoon nap so the us girls can go out to Sanibel and play by the pool and beach. Kate and I have never had trouble talking and this visit is no different. We have been catching up and laughing a lot. We swim in the Casa Ybel Resort pool and walk along the beach. Our chatter never ceases and the topics just roll, one right into another. Kate is an expert at getting scholarships for masters degrees and doctorates and since that is a new goal, I pick her brain. She is so helpful and full of great knowledge. Kate feels sure I will be welcomed at a school that will pay for my degrees and invite me to teach. That’s a picture I enjoy!
Kate’s love for her fiancé, her daughter and her life oozes out of her. Her energy is delicious and can be felt in every conversation we have by the pool. Eventually she heads home and I run some errands and stop for dinner at the Cracker Box, a 52 year-old restaurant in Fort Myers. I can’t eat it all, but I’m sure Kate and Nate will finish my leftovers later.
As Wren goes down for the evening, Nate is off to night fish and Kate begins a HUNT to find our old lifeguarding photos. I was 18 -21 and Kate was 16-19. She lands on the jackpot and we are brought to tears of laughter as we reminisce about the great, old days running Elcona Country Club’s summer aquatics programs. We thought all the web readers would love a glimpse at us then versus now. This is back in the days when I weighed A LOT more. Things have certainly changed for us in just about every possible positive way, but the laughter and love always remain. We had a blast then and we are still having a blast now.
