Siesta Key, Florida has been named over and over one of the top beaches in the world and certainly ranks among the best in the United States. It is vast – both wide and long and loaded with white sand. There are thousands of people exploring the Siesta Key beach on this otherwise quiet Monday. People come from all over the world to check out the white powder and the enormity of the shore.
Donna is a true Florida tour guide, taking me along to all the best beach towns along her section of the coastline. We depart Venice and head to Sarasota, Sarasota to Long Beach, Longboat Key to Anna Maria and Anna Maria back down to Siesta Key. We grab soup and salads at the Siesta Key Oyster Company, soak up the people-watching and window shop around the main strip. From Siesta Key, it’s south again towards Venice, swinging into the packed Tervis store. I run in and pick up three gifts I have been looking for and find myself a coupon to use.
As we coast back into Venice, we stop where the bay meets the Gulf and watch as the wind whips the trees and adds to the chop and major whitecaps. Our evening is spent with Bob, dining at the outdoor tiki hut known as the Spanish Point Pub. No sign of rain yet, but whipping wind, humid air and clouds, signal a storm is raging and headed our way. It’s a beautiful night to breath in the fresh sea air.
That super cute pup is Casey, Bob and Donna’s friendly dog.
